We decided to go with paper as our stop motion medium, as we wanted to do something different from the usual clay.  When we were first brainstorming ideas for our stop motion project, we were playing around with the idea of making a parody of a fairytale, but we were worried about it being too complex for just ...

7th November 2023 - 5th December 2023 (Week 11 - Week 15) Asma' Binti Mohd Jailani / 0354335 / Bachelor of Mass Communication (Honours)  Illustration and Visual Narrative Final Task / Self-Titled Portrait For our final project, we were tasked with creating a self-portrait that was comprised of photography, typography, and graphic design. As I was taking neither Typography or Digital Photography and Imaging this semester, Encik Hafiz said that I should focus on the composition of my piece and the design component of the assignment, since his marking criteria would be focused on that.  SKETCHING/BRAINSTORMING PHASE This semester had been a particular rough one for me; I struggled a lot with my modules, and it seemed like a season where I was continuously getting things wrong and overcommitting to things that were far out of my skillset or comfort zone. A constant refrain in my head was that if only I had more soft skil...

17th October 2023 - 31st October 2023 (Week 8 - Week 10) Asma' Binti Mohd Jailani / 0354335 / Bachelor of Mass Communication (Honours)  Illustration and Visual Narrative Task 3 / Animated Minimalist Movie Poster For our third assignment, we were instructed to complete a minimalist movie poster accompanied with animation that showcased secondary action. The poster had to illustrate the point in the movie right before a decisive moment. The moment that I decided to immortalise in my poster was the end of the movie, where Lizzie sees Mr Darcy walking up to her in the moors at dawn, after her disastrous visit from Lady Catherine the night before.  DRAFTING PROCESS I drafted up a quick sketch of what I had envisioned for the poster during class:  Figure 1.1: Movie poster rough sketch The followin...

Our collection of poems follows a young girl’s journey throughout her life. The Start of a Chapter - Haiku Her rosy cheeks bloom, Cute and cuddly hugged to chest.  Live to reach triumph. Sweetest Comforts - Acrostic Poem Tender touches and gentle words, Absent of mean giggles and tease. “No more tears, dear,” Gone are the rainy clouds and big bad meanies.  Eating an overripe tangerine Resembling my friend’s worn horn,  Its beady eyes reflect a sheen. No words are said, a silent warmth;  Endeared by...

12th October 2023 - 26th October (Week 7 - Week 9) Asma' Binti Mohd Jailani / 0354335 / Bachelor of Mass Communication (Honours)  Introduction to Creative Writing Assignment 2 / Monologue Figure 1.1: Week 9 Monologue Presentation  Don’t look at me like that, every girl needs a vice or two.  Besides, you’re the one who taught me how to smoke anyway.  It’s just, the funeral… it’s taken such a toll on me. It was all so… sudden. Somehow, it still doesn’t feel real, that he’s gone.  Listen, I-I haven’t told anyone this before. But, I am going to tell you now. The reason for your father’s death, Luke. It wasn’t a heart attack. It was… me. It was me. I killed him. Luke, I killed him and it was so- it was so… easy.  Poison. Strychnine in his whiskey, on one of those nights where I knew he’d make me sit and drink with him – god I hated those nights when he’d make me sit and drink with him ...

Introduction to Creative Writing - Short Story

7th September 2023 - 5th October (Week 2 - Week 6) Asma' Binti Mohd Jailani / 0354335 / Bachelor of Mass Communication (Honours)  Introduction to Creative Writing Task 1 / The Short Story The Illusion of Choice February, 2022. Climbing Gym. No.  Mia traces the line of his smile to the crinkle by his eyes. The light sheen of sweat on his brow. The slight heave of his chest as he catches his breath. The exuberant way he looks up at the wall behind her, studded with multicoloured stone and jutting slabs of granite.  Mia leans back on her palms, chalk caked around and underneath her fingernails. Idly, she watches as a little girl in purple leggings fearlessly climbs up the wall adjacent to them, the tag ranking the climb’s difficulty at a modest 6.  Ten minutes ago, Mia could barely manage a level 3 climb without bashing her knee against the wall every 5 seconds.  Her eyes drift back towards Hanif, who’s still lying flat against the foam mattress, br...
