For our final project, we were tasked with creating a stop motion film using any medium of our choice. We were also given the option to either complete the project solo or in a pair, with the latter only having to do a minimum of 30 seconds, while those in pairs would have to make a film that was a minimum of 1-minute long.
For my final project, I teamed up with Alefiya Hassanally. We decided to go
with paper as our stop motion medium, as we wanted to do something different
from the usual clay.
When we were first brainstorming ideas for our stop motion project, we were
playing around with the idea of making a parody of a fairytale, but we were
worried about it being too complex for just 1-minute. At some point, I
randomly suggested the idea of making pizzas the main characters of our stop
motion film. Alefiya was into it, and so we just rolled with it.
Our first idea for the pizza schtick was a parody on the Ugly Duckling, where
a plain cheese pizza who is often left unpicked at a pizzeria in favour of the
other, flashier pizzas with more toppings, is finally chosen by a little boy.
We wanted it to be a feel-good kind of thing, where the overarching message
was that you don't have to feel inferior to others, as someone will love you
as you are.
We presented our idea to Mr Martin, and he said it was too boring as there
wasn't any twist :')
So me and Alefiya went back to the drawing board. Over lunch, Alefiya
suggested that we make it morbid instead, where the plain pizza ends up taking
revenge on the other fancy pizzas that made fun of it. I liked it a lot,
and so that was the version we went with.

PRODUCTION PHASE
The filming of our stop motion film took place at my house, over the course of
two days. On the first day, we spent most of the day cutting out our props and
pizzas, before shooting half of the footage needed for our film.

POST-PRODUCTION
During the editing stage, we decided to nest the footage according to their
respective scenes, for ease of editing and trimming.

For the orange glow, we added a mask with a layer over the oven window, before
adding all the necessary sound effects and music. For the announcer's voice,
Alefiya found an AI voice generator online that could replicate the voices of
WWE announcers. After sampling three different announcers, we decided to go
with Jim Ross.

We used two video tracks for the stop motion film footage and the colour
correction adjustments. As for the audio tracks, we ended up using four audio
tracks in total. Track A1 was for dialogue, Tracks A2 & A4 for SFX, and
Track A3 for music.
