Assignment 3 / Poem Compilation

Theme: Rainbows and Unicorns

Explanation: Centred around the idea of how as a child, you view the world as rainbows and unicorns, but as you grow older, you become more jaded. Our collection of poems follows a young girl’s journey throughout her life.

The Start of a Chapter - Haiku

Her rosy cheeks bloom,

Cute and cuddly hugged to chest.

Live to reach triumph.

Sweetest Comforts - Acrostic Poem

Tender touches and gentle words,

Absent of mean giggles and tease.

“No more tears, dear,”

Gone are the rainy clouds and big bad meanies.

Eating an overripe tangerine

Resembling my friend’s worn horn,

Its beady eyes reflect a sheen.

No words are said, a silent warmth;

Endeared by a fruit and Mr Unicorn.

Show and Tell - Limerick

Behold, my trusty Mr Unicorn!

Of flowing mane and yellowed horn.

But my classmates they whisper and titter,

Comparing my steed to all their glitter.

I wilt at their eyes filled with scorn.

Things I’ll Never Have - Sonnet

Curling in the shadows, a twisting, twirling, twine,

Like the thorns on a rose stalk, crushing my windpipe.

“Don’t complain,” they said, “and even more don’t whine.”

“Money doesn’t grow on trees, so do nothing of the type!”

My green eyed unicorn, I clutch close to my chest.

My sole possession, others will never understand.

They claim to know love, thinking they know best,

But possess more ‘toys’ than I can count on one hand.

I wonder if they noticed the strain on my cheeks,

Or the times I spent buried in my lonely abyss.

I’m happy, I am, even without their cliques.

Though at the very end, I still ask myself this-

Why can others dream, in multicoloured hues,

While I drown in a world of viridescent rues.

 Love Scorned - Narrative Poem

“We regret to inform you...”

The beginning and the end,

What she hoped was untrue,

All her wishes condemned.

Once, she dreamed of bigger places,

Of newer books and better friends.

A piece of paper that holds all hopes,

Dashes hers, a candle in the wind.

The lost one shall guide it’s own way,

Running to seize what she cannot achieve,

A harrowing wail-

Moonbeams honouring her grief.

Bathed in the bluest of glows;

Alone, desolated she feels.

Only a companion in the dark,

One that knew her just too much.

There she watched, Mr Unicorn perched,

Looking down, twin beads of melancholy.

A flash of wrath, soft cotton fluttered,

A snowstorm of sorrow and fury.

Her eyes flutter, a faucet leaking.

Hands trembling, stained with sin,

Once friend, now threads and cloth,

A blue tail is all that’s left.

Oh Mr Unicorn - Lyrical Poem
Song ( 0:00 - 2:40 ) https://open.spotify.com/track/1BncfTJAWxrsxyT9culBrj?si=eKkiuJ9hR8iu0tEL0B5KjQ

Oh, Mr Unicorn, wherever you are,

Pray the wind sings you this melody from afar.

I visited your grave, the last we saw.

A familiar road, that once was home,

Purple peeling paint and broken blue domes,

A child’s giggles, a teenager’s cries.

A moment in time, a facade of lies.

Oh, Mr Unicorn, wherever you are,

Pray the wind sings you this melody from afar.

I am now a woman, body and soul,

Married with kids, Mont Kiara our home.

Angel, Eve and Sky,

Wondrous gremlins, whom I shall provide.

Scribbles of planets, space and sea,

Similar to ours when we were three.

Ah, how delightful it must feel,

For dreams to sprout and grow like trees.

Oh, Mr Unicorn, wherever you are,

Pray the wind sings you this melody from afar.

I am now a woman, mind and heart.

Across our home, our parents reside,

Retired and merry, they’re thriving like art.

Oh, Mr Unicorn, wherever you are,

You cannot see, but I hope you can be

As proud as I am, walking in glee,

With people I call home, and a house not filled with fleas.

I am happy, I am content,

I am free.
